Established in 1839, Clarion County was carved out of Armstrong and Venango Counties. Named for the Clarion River, the town of Clarion became the county seat and by 1841, established a borough with a population of 741 residents. Today, the current population is over 6000. It has a bustling business district, is the home of Clarion University, has numerous employment opportunities, and has a safe and friendly community with lots of activities throughout the year. Known for its Autumn Leaf Festival, Clarion is a popular place for alumni, friends and family.
Located 1 mile north of interstate 80, Clarion is 80 miles north of Pittsburgh, 70 miles east of Youngstown, Ohio and 300 miles west of New York, New York. Interstate 80, using exits 62 and 64, provides entrances to Clarion and the nationally known Cook Forest State Park located 20 minutes from downtown.
