Originally called “the Diamond”, the park was used to hold the first exhibition for the Clarion Agricultural Association in 1854. The exhibitions eventually moved to the west end of town to the Fairgrounds. The park became the “memorial” park to honor war veterans. The Soldiers monument located in the center of the park was constructed in 1896 and was the first monument of its kind to be erected in Pennsylvania. It was to commemorate those who served during the Civil War. Today, many memorials in the park pay tribute to veterans of all wars.
